Looking for a knit baby cap pattern? Here is a gift giving idea to keep that special newborn snug, warm and content in a knit baby cap.
I knit this white baby cap with Cotton, 4 ply yarn, as it was for a summer newborn baby and I wanted it soft and cuddly during the warm weather. You can use any color 4 ply yarn. It doesn't take much yarn, so it is a good way to use up small quantities of yarn that you have left from other projects (recycle and reuse what we have, another one of our great money saving tips).
Knit Baby Cap
Cast on 66 stitches on size 5 double pointed knitting needles. Spread evenly on 3 needles.
Purl 8 rows.
Row 9 start to knit all stitches, continue to knit all rounds until entire cap measures 4 1/2" in length.
Start decreasing rows.
Row 1: Knit 1, *Knit 6, Knit 2 together, repeat from * across row, end with Knit 1.
Row 2 and all subsequent even numbered rows, knit 1 row.
Row 3: Knit 1, *Knit 5, Knit 2 together, repeat from * across row, end with Knit 1.
Row 5: Knit 1, *Knit 4, Knit 2 together, repeat from * across row, end with Knit 1.
Row 7: Knit 1, *Knit 3, Knit 2 together, repeat from * across row, end with Knit 1.
Row 9: Knit 1, *Knit 2, Knit 2 together, repeat from * across row, end with Knit 1.
Row 11: Knit 1, *Knit 1, Knit 2 together, repeat from * across row, end with Knit 1. (18 stitches)
Row 13: Knit 1, *Knit 2 together, repeat from * across row, end with Knit 1. (10 stitches)
Cut yarn, leaving about 12 inches of yarn from last stitch. Thread yarn onto a tapestry needle and beginning with the first stitch on the next knitting needle, remove all of the remaining stitches, one by one, onto the tapestry needle. Draw the yarn tail tight through all of the 10 stitches to form the round top peak of the cap. Knot it and weave the tail through the inside stitches of the cap. Weave the yarn tail from the beginning of the cap into the bottom of the cap. Wrap it up for your next gift giving occasion!
